2011-2015 Jetta TDI.

The car was Volkswagen trying their hardest to make a Corolla, and failing (because they missed that Corolla buyers buy Corollas for reliability, not blandness).

The 2011-2014 engine was fairly unreliable, and we all know about Dieselgate. The 2015 engine was still unreliable... and we all know about Dieselgate.

It appears VW is the theme of this thread with 3 out of 3 responses being them.

Honestly, that’s better than the cosworth Vega...

That is still the greatest disappointment in domestic car history and I was -15 or so when it came out.

Why? Weren’t the cossies actually pretty good engines as long as you didn’t overheat them?

From what I’ve read there really wasn’t a way to NOT overheat them. The clearances were off enough so that the iron block/aluminum head blew gaskets if you breathed on them wrong.

Yeah, but the cossys were somewhat decent performers from what I remember.

~115hp 1.6 iirc pretty good for the 70's to be sure.

But if it was successful I imagine domestic manufacturers would have developed small motors faster.
